Docology: Fluoride Explained
Dr. Zucker is joined by Dr. Brett Kessler in the latest episode to examine whether water fluoridation is a friend OR a foe.
We’ve all grown up taking for granted that fluoride has been added to our water, to prevent tooth decay and the many serious conditions it can cause throughout the body.
But now fluoridation is under attack. The state of Utah has just banned fluoride from its water systems, the first state to do so. RFK Jr, the new Health and Human Services Secretary, says every state should follow suit. He cites a number of controversial studies suggesting that excessive fluoride exposure may be linked to cognitive delays in kids. But decades of research show conclusively that fluoride in tap water helps prevent cavities, especially in children. It’s been hailed as one of the most significant achievements of the 20th century, up there with vaccines and identifying tobacco as a major health hazard.
So, what’s the truth here? Is fluoride a friend—or a foe—when it comes to your overall health, and that of your children?
Who better to tell us than the president of the American Dental Association, Dr. Brett Kessler? He’s our featured guest on today’s episode of Docology.
