Our guest today is a young doctor who has almost died four times from a rare condition called Castleman’s Disease. Patients with these kind of unusual illnesses can find themselves in a horrible predicament, with treatments either non-existent or incredibly expensive. Dr. David Fajgenbaum is now an associate professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He has, understandably, devoted his career to studying so-called “orphan diseases,” and on today’s episode he shares his harrowing personal experiences as well as his provocative professional insights.
